From Verena Brettenthaler & Sarah Stadler, 5HLWc

From September 29th to October 3rd, my classmates, the parallel class, and four teachers spent a school trip in Belgium, staying in Brussels. During our cultural trip, the most wonderful day was our visit to Ghent – a city that really impressed us.
We took a one-hour train ride from Brussels to Ghent. The delightful old town impressed us as soon as we got off the tram that took us from the train station to the town.
Our first stop was the impressive Gravensteen Castle, where we listened to an audio guide and learned about its fascinating history. After that, we treated ourselves to a delicious pain au chocolat and coffee from a local bakery.
Then came my favorite part – a relaxing boat tour through the city’s canals with a fantastic guide who told us many interesting stories. From there, we had the best view of the typical brick houses and the beautiful facades. Later, we had some free time to shop in stores like Kiko, Stradivarius, and Bershka.
Ghent felt so much cleaner and more peaceful than Brussels. The city is full of charming bridges, old buildings, and lovely canals that give it a special flair. You can really feel the French influence in its architecture, yet people there speak Flemish instead of French. Some streets even reminded us of Amsterdam.
We absolutely loved Ghent and wish we could have stayed longer. The boat trip was definitely the best part. We hope to visit again someday!
