Eine Woche voller Sprache, Kultur und gemeinsamer Erlebnisse: Die 4HLKa erkundete Edinburgh und sammelte dabei wertvolle Eindrücke weit über den Schulalltag hinaus:
Students‘ Impressions:
We all got much closer and bonded over many different things. I would really recommend this trip to other classes as well, since it created many fun memories, helped melt the ice between our classmates, and on top of that helped us with our language skills and cultural understanding.

When we visited the Highlands, we all thought we were taken to the set of The Lord of the Rings because the landscape and the waterfall reminded us of fairies and magic. It was mesmerising. The people filled us with joy because they were such kind souls and really adorable. They always made us feel welcome! I would always come back to this city because it was really magical. Anyone who gets to experience Scotland should take it all in and keep it in their memory forever. It’s worth cherishing!

We went to Edinburgh Castle, where we could feel the fascinating history of Scotland everywhere around us. In the evening, we joined a Ghost Tour, which was very scary yet exciting at the same time. Between these activities, we always had the chance to enjoy some food and relax along Victoria Street. At night, after such an intense and eventful day, we were so exhausted that we almost fell straight into our beds. Overall, the Edinburgh trip was unforgettable. I loved its history, culture, warm people, and the experiences we shared as classmates.

For me, this was the most exciting day because I absolutely love nature and the surroundings of Great Britain, especially Scotland. So, we met in the morning in the centre of Edinburgh and got on a bus that took us out of the city to the Highlands. We visited some very nice places and villages, but the highlight for me was Queen’s View.

I really enjoyed the trip to Edinburgh. My personal highlight was Edinburgh Castle because it has so much history and is very beautiful. I really recommend the trip because Edinburgh is so different from Austria, and everybody has to see it with their own eyes.

More than “four million tourists wander the streets of Edinburgh yearly. In September, my class and I had the privilege of being amongst them. In the span of only one week, we already immersed ourselves in the culture, improved our English, and most importantly, had a lot of fun.”

On Friday, we started our first English class at the Royal Society. Our teacher was friendly and made the lessons especially fun by playing games with us. […] After school, we explored the city together and talked about Scottish culture. Walking along the Royal Mile and seeing Edinburgh Castle felt like being in a movie.

We were all so nervous to meet our host families; luckily, we were welcomed into a lovely house with a mum, dad, and a baby called Ella. […] I had many great experiences and gained unforgettable memories. The class grew stronger together, and we understand each other better now. I would love to go back to Edinburgh one day.

What I really liked about the Scottish city were the stone houses. They made you feel as if you lived in another century, and this atmosphere also put you in autumn mood. My friend Lara and I also visited the Fudge Kitchen, where we bought some fudge for our families in Austria. We were also allowed to test samples, so we knew if we would like it. Fudge is a typical Scottish sweet treat that is handmade by the workers. All in all, our trip to Edinburgh was an amazing experience. I really enjoyed seeing the Crown Jewels and taking part in the Ghost Tour. I would recommend it to anyone because it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I also learned a few Scottish words, like aye for “yes” and braw for “great”. Scottish people really do have their own language! I loved discovering more about their culture—the music, the accent, and of course the kilts. Everyone we met was so friendly and warm-hearted. The week was unforgettable. I enjoyed every moment. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone who loves adventure, languages, and a good laugh (and doesn’t mind a wee bit of rain).

I was really impressed and pleasantly surprised by my host mum because she was super kind and funny. She really made my time in Edinburgh enjoyable and comfortable. Scarlett was her name, and she really made sure that I felt comfortable. Her apartment was incredibly cosy, and her bathroom was really clean and well-organised. The food she made was delicious; also, the vegetarian haggis.

We also visited a lot of different places in Edinburgh. I think my favourite one was the National Museum. It had seven floors, and each floor was just so big that you didn’t even have the chance to see everything in the museum. I think my favourite activity was the Ghost Tour. The tour guide was so nice, and she told us the stories of each place in an easy-to-understand but exciting way. She did a very good job.

One of my favourite moments was at the end of the week, when we played a guessing game about Edinburgh. It was a fun challenge that tested everything we had learned about the city. The activity brought the whole group together and was a great way to finish the course.

If it hadn’t been for a school trip, I probably would never have visited Scotland – and that would have been a real shame because, in my opinion, it is such a beautiful city. Edinburgh has now been added to my list of cities where I might want to study in the future.
