Pauline Koß und Joy-Lena Kulmer, Trieste/Italia, Summer 2022

We got the opportunity to spend our summer internship in Trieste. We worked at the TriesteLovesJazz festival between July 7th and August 8th.
TriesteLovesJazz is a jazz music festival which takes place every summer between July and September in Trieste. In these three months 23 concerts are held in different venues and you can visit every concert for free. The performers are jazz musicians from all over the world.
On our first day our boss, Gabriele Centis, gave us an introduction about the festival and told us everything important we needed to know and explained us our tasks. From this point on we had to ask the musicians for their song list to register it for the SIAE (it’s the Italian version of AKM), hand out flyers, sell CDs from the artists, artist support and take photos of the concert to post it afterwards on social media. We enjoyed talking to the musicians and getting to know the jazz music genre and how event management in Italy works. Because we started working in the evening, we had the opportunity to explore the city and to visit museums in the mornings and early afternoons. During our time in Trieste, we also met a lot of interesting people and have seen very impressive event locations from an old castle courtyard to the park of a museum.
Thanks to Erasmus, we got to know cultural institutions and festivals abroad and gained experience both in the field of culture and congress management as well as personally, which is an experience from which we benefit for a lifetime!
