Maria Beichl, Daniela Großschedl & Lea Sternad, Amsterdam/Netherlands, Summer 2022

The three of us had the unique opportunity to work at the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam this summer. We had the chance to plan, organize and execute an activity for the Anne Frank House. Our assignment was to create an event to reach more young people in order to make them aware of Anne Frank and her story as well as to connect them to the museum in general.  At first, we got to know the whole institution with the different departments like the Youth Network, the Collections and Presentations and the Marketing department. In the following weeks we planned the activity „Let‘s Walk and Talk about Anne Frank“ It was an interactive city tour through Amsterdam to sights associated  to Anne Frank and the Jewish history like the Anne Frank Museum, The Dutch National Holocaust Memorial of Names, The Dockworker Statue, the former apartment of the Frank family at Merwedeplein and the 6th Montessori School Anne Frank. The participants got a tote bag with information about the sights, some goodies from the Museum‘s Shop, Snacks and Drinks. The tour was self guided and people could also take part in groups. There was a prize to win for the first individual or group to finish the tour and to solve the crossword puzzle, they could find in the bag, correctly.

The winners got a copy of Anne Frank‘s diary. In the last week we evaluated the project and filled out a recommendation document about what the Anne Frank House could do better the next time they organize something like that.
Next to our working hours we also had time to visit the beautiful city Amsterdam with its typical bikes and canals as well as the region of Amsterdam which was very enriching for us.
Thank‘s to our colleagues at the Anne Frank House we also got the chance to visit interesting exclusive events of other museums like the film screening of the Fashion for Good Museum or the Vincent on Friday at the Van Gogh Museum and many more. Of course, we also visited the Anne Frank House multiple times ourselves and even got to work there for a day to get to know the different positions.
We also got the chance to attend a small event of the Argentinian Delegation of the Anne Frank House and were able to use some of our Spanish skills as well.

All in all, we can say that during our stay we gathered lots of new information about the story of Anne Frank and World War 2 while gaining lots of new experiences and improving some of our personal skills. We had a wonderful stay and if we had the choice, we would do it again!
